In Office, compatibility mode is used automatically to open Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents that were created in earlier versions of these applications. Compatibility mode ensures that no new or improved features in Office are available while users work with a document so that people who use earlier versions of Office will have full editing capabilities. Compatibility mode also preserves the layout of the document.
How Office uses compatibility mode

Set default compatibility mode on file creation for Word
If you use Group Policy, you can use the Set default compatibility mode on file creation policy setting to manage the default compatibility mode that Word uses to create new Word documents. This might be necessary if you have add-ins or macros that use the layout functions that are used in Word 2007 or Word 2010. When you enable this policy setting, you can specify which versions of Word that new Word documents are compatible with. Several configurations options are available for this setting:
- Word 2003 This mode disables features in Word that are incompatible with Word 2003.

- Open your PowerPoint file.
- Select a slide that contains an image or picture.
- Select the image or picture.
- Click the Picture Tools ribbon at the top of the screen.
- Click the Format sub ribbon.
- Click Compress Pictures.
- Select the checkbox to Delete cropped areas of pictures option to reduce the overall size of the image or picture in the presentation.
- Chose Email (96 ppi): minimize document size for sharing.
- Uncheck Apply only to this picture if you want all of the pictures in the entire presentation to be compressed for smaller file.
- Click OK.
Optimize Compatibility Powerpoint Mac
In most cases, 96 ppi is the best selection. Unless you plan to print out quality photos of your slides, this option will reduce the file size and there will be little difference in the screen output of a slide at 220, 150, or 96 ppi.

Optimize Compatibility Powerpoint 2015 For Mac Pro
- Open your PowerPoint file.
- Select a slide that contains an image or picture.
- Select the image or picture.
- Click the Format Picture ribbon at the top of the screen.
- Click Compress (to the right of the Transparency icon).
- Click the Picture Quality drop down and choose Best for Sending in Email (96 ppi).
- Select the checkboxto Delete Cropped Areas of Pictures to reduce the overall size of the image or picture in the presentation.
- Apply to all pictures in this file is default and recommended for a smaller file. If you only want to delete the currently selected picture, uncheck that.
- Click OK.
